NNPC to Begin Prospecting Hydrocarbon in Northern Nigeria
The Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) has said that it has started the process leading to the exploration of oil and gas in the Sokoto basin in the Northern part of Nigeria.
This announcement was made by the Group Managing Director, Maikanti Kachalla Baru when he received the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who paid him a visit at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
In a statement by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, Baru was quoted as saying: “We have been on the issue of exploration in the frontier basins and so far some measures of steps have been taken. We have already purchased aeromagnetic data and it’s being interpreted to determine the sedimentary thickness and the basin configuration.”
He said NNPC had awarded a contract for the geological mapping of the basin, adding that samples had been collected, mapped, analysed and geological modelling executed so as to ensure data integration.
Baru stated that discussions are ongoing with Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL) to award the contract for surface geochemistry, ground gravity and magnetics.
